[Quote on Information] – If knowledge is power then the ability to disseminate
information is the key to achieving knowledge.
In the past the ability to gather and analyze information was perceived as
a means of deriving a competitive advantage over the competition. CRM, TQM and
other initiatives all sprang from the same thought – the more information
one has, the better one can run a business.
In today’s world of ever increasing complexity where technology has provided
us with the ability to gather, collate and distribute information at light speed
we are now faced with a new situation – Information
Fatigue.
Managers are faced with ever increasing amounts of information that must be
sifted through to find and determine information that is valuable to them. Reports
that were once generated weekly, monthly or quarterly by manually intensive processes
can now be produced almost daily.
Many users are faced with reports that were based on business needs that have
changed as their underlying business’ has changed or that need a specialist
to analyze them in order to gleam insight into the information contained therein!
Many organizations are know faced with the question of whether these reports,
aid a user – be it a line manager, a branch supervisor or a chairman of
a multinational organization – in performing their job.
To simplify and make the dissemination of complex and multitudinous information
more comprehensible a new industry discipline has arisen – Business
Activity Monitoring (BAM).
